Modeling QuestionsModeling Questions Answered! How To Become A Model We are going to take your questions that you have asked of us and answer them here! Presented, as A What Not To Do and To Do list. ![]() What Not To Do When Looking To Getting An Agent1) Do not pay a modeling agency - modeling agencies get paid by commissions that they get from booking you or your child work. How does this work? First a booking is an actual assignment that the agency books for you. A booking can be a photography shoot, a fashion show, a non-union tv spot to name a few. When you are booked on the assignment there is a rate that is quoted for the booking these rates change from each different type of modeling booking. From the rate lets say it is $100 dollars an hour - most agencies have a 10% - 20% agency fee depending on your agreement with the agency. So what this means is the agency will take this percentage from the booking of $100 dollars and the model with make the $100 per hour less the agency fee. 2) Do not lie about your height .. ok seems easy enough but truth is it happens all the time .. and agents will measure you. The better way to go about it is to measure yourself and find an agency that accepts models with your height. If you are under the height of a fashion agency, then the better way for you to go for the most success is with a commercial agency. If you are accepted with the commercial/ talent agency you will still be able to do print work as well as fashion. Commercial agencies higher models of all types, age, and looks. The models and actors they hire will do work for commerical, fashion print and tv. 3) Do not go on a casting, open call alone if you are under l7 go with a parent or guardian. We recommend that if you are over l7 to also go with a parent or a friend. Think Safety First! It is always a good idea to have a parent of guardian go with you to the agency. One reason is if you are under age and the agency would like to represent you you will have to have a parent there to read and sign any contracts they offer to you. It is also a good idea to take these contacts with you and read them over if possible with legal representation so that you fully know what is stated in the contract. The contract will also tell you what is expected of you as a represented model as well as what you can expect from the agency. 4) Do not go to a casting or open call or audition if you have not checked out and researched who you are going to see, never go to a Modeling Agency audition that was advertised in a local newspaper classified section .. Especially if the add reads We Can Make You A Star! 5) Do not send into agencies photos that are out of date or that you do not look the same in now, do not send in photos with alot of makeup or a shot with a group of girls or guys .. they are only looking at you and want to see you right away in the photo. For children do not send in photos that have siblings in them unless you are twins. If you are mailing in photos be sure to include all information on the back of photo, date of birth, size, shoe size, hair color, eye color. If you sign your child to an agency make sure that you update them with new snapshots if your child is a new size, if your child is missing teeth, if they have a new hair style.. it is very important to let your agents know all this information. The reason is that they send your child to clients for a certain look and when the client chooses a child to cast or book - they want the child to look exactly as they do in photos. Well these are some of the important Do Not's One big do ...
