A Day in the Life of...
Welcome to “A Day in the Life of a Plus Size Model”…
This is my first of many entry’s, so I thought we would start things off by letting you know a little bit about me, hmmm where to begin…
The year was 1989, it was a cold December night > LOL, just kidding!
Seriously though, my name is Kailee, I am 17 years old and I am a plus size model, what is “Plus size” you may ask?
Plus-size is the term internationally applied typically to women, larger than a standard U.S. size 8, who models clothing, wearing a dress size 10-14. Did you know some size 8 are even considered to be plus, but don’t get me started, that’s a whole other blog…
It’s been a heck of a year, full of ups and downs but more then not, I have had some wonderful opportunities come my way, like recently being signed with a top agency “CLICK Model Management”, a total dream come true! I am excited for the future of plus size models; I believe I am part of the next generation of young women to change the shape of fashion. It’s all about being a Role Model as well, and that's how I see myself, so I was honored when my picture appeared in a Youth AIDS newsletter. I am very passionate about raising AIDS awareness, especially among my friends and peers, whom are completely unaware that 50% of new HIV infections are among, people aged 15-24. I have shot with photographer Christopher Jensen, posing in the “Red Chair”, for his "One year, One Chair, One World, One Vision" tour. This is a very thought provoking, inspiring photography project, that infuses art, science and spirituality, to help raise money to help find a cure for AIDS. His red chair is a symbol, a reminder, not only of all those who have died from AIDS and all those who are living with AIDS, but for all those who WILL DIE from AIDS if we do not continue to educate and find a cure.
I would encourage anyone who has a voice to get involved in something you believe in, you don’t have to be a hero, and you don’t have to be rich and famous to make a difference in the world.
Well, that’s it for now, but before I go I will leave you with this thought, it may be modeling or acting, singing or dancing, supporting AIDS awareness or volunteering at a local animal shelter, find something you believe in and are passionate about, and then share it, with the whole world…
Ciao…
