A Day in the Life of...

Welcome to “A Day in the Life of a Plus Size Model”…
This is my first of many entry’s, so I thought we would start things off by letting you know a little bit about me, hmmm where to begin…
The year was 1989, it was a cold December night > LOL, just kidding!
Seriously though, my name is Kailee, I am 17 years old and I am a plus size model, what is “Plus size” you may ask?
Plus-size is the term internationally applied typically to women, larger than a standard U.S. size 8, who models clothing, wearing a dress size 10-14. Did you know some size 8 are even considered to be plus, but don’t get me started, that’s a whole other blog…
It’s been a heck of a year, full of ups and downs but more then not, I have had some wonderful opportunities come my way, like recently being signed with a top agency “CLICK Model Management”, a total dream come true! I am excited for the future of plus size models; I believe I am part of the next generation of young women to change the shape of fashion. It’s all about being a Role Model as well, and that's how I see myself, so I was honored when my picture appeared in a Youth AIDS newsletter. I am very passionate about raising AIDS awareness, especially among my friends and peers, whom are completely unaware that 50% of new HIV infections are among, people aged 15-24. I have shot with photographer Christopher Jensen, posing in the “Red Chair”, for his "One year, One Chair, One World, One Vision" tour. This is a very thought provoking, inspiring photography project, that infuses art, science and spirituality, to help raise money to help find a cure for AIDS. His red chair is a symbol, a reminder, not only of all those who have died from AIDS and all those who are living with AIDS, but for all those who WILL DIE from AIDS if we do not continue to educate and find a cure.
I would encourage anyone who has a voice to get involved in something you believe in, you don’t have to be a hero, and you don’t have to be rich and famous to make a difference in the world.
Well, that’s it for now, but before I go I will leave you with this thought, it may be modeling or acting, singing or dancing, supporting AIDS awareness or volunteering at a local animal shelter, find something you believe in and are passionate about, and then share it, with the whole world…

Ciao…

My Day At America's Next Top Model
by: Kailee Smith

Oh My! Have I got something HUGE to tell you all!!! I finally turned 18 and that means I can finally try out for America’s Next Top model. You guys don’t even know, but this is a BIG1 I have always been a fan of Tyra Banks, even before the first episode of ANTM . When my 16th birthday rolled around my Mom wanted to take me to a live taping of the Tyra Banks show, But when she called for tickets they told her no one under 18 could be in the studio audience, I was crushed. But a couple of weeks later I got an autographed picture of TYRA in the mail, and I placed it on the cover of my school binder, my whole sophomore year, until someone stole it. But every time I had looked at the picture, I thought of how much I wanted to be like Tyra and one day I hope to be America’s Next Top Model, But not just a top model but Americas Next Top Role Model! So When my Mom and I found out that ANTM was having open calls for season 11 in San Francisco, we were all it! The night before the open call I laid in bed wondering how I would react if and when I saw Tyra for the first time. Would I be all cool and just chill, I don’t know what I would do if I met her, let alone get on the show.I allowed myself to imagine winning and what that would mean for my family. Well, I already knew what it would mean to win, it would mean my whole life would change, I don’t believe it would make ALL my dreams come true, but pretty damn close if you ask me! I know what this would mean to my family, they would be soooo proud of me, and that to me is priceless. But the big question remained Why should I be America’s Next Top Model??? Why? You know, I could of laid there all night racking my brain and coming up with reasons why I think I should be Americas Next Top Model, and that’s when it hit me, Why me, why not me! Why not her, why not you? Suddenly it wasn’t just about me anymore. I was doing this for all the girls who never felt pretty enough, because they weren’t a size 6. I was doing this for all the girls who think they have to starve themselves to be a model. I was doing this for my little sister Brooklyn, to prove to her that its not just Mom, being Mom, when she says beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.
I am doing this for all of us girls sitting at home watching, wishing, hoping and DREAMING…
